After this year’s review, changes have been implemented across the EMPOWER High Growth, Growth, Cautious Growth, ARF Matching and Stability Funds.   These changes involve 3 key investment areas:  <ol start="1" type="1"> <li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5;">Bonds: We increased allocations to long term government bonds across most funds and high yield bonds in the EMPOWER High Growth Fund. The increase in bond allocations was mainly offset by a reduction in the allocation to Emerging Market Bonds, as well as European Corporate Bonds. The overall allocation to bonds remains unchanged.</li> <li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5;">Equities: We reduced allocations to Dynamic Share to Cash Equities (risk managed equity strategy) and Low Volatility equities. The reductions were offset by an increase in the allocation to Global Equities. The overall allocation to equities will remain unchanged.</li> <li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5;">Infrastructure: We will be investing in a new Energy Transition Fund that will invest in infrastructure opportunities in Ireland. The new investment fund is a joint venture between Irish Life Investment Managers and Northleaf Capital Partners, a global specialist private markets investment firm with expertise in infrastructure investing. The overall allocation to infrastructure remains unchanged.</li> </ol> The return and risk profile of all multi asset funds will remain the same. The majority of these changes were implemented in May.   Why did we make these changes?   Long term bond yields are still offering the potential for attractive long-term returns and provide an opportunity to further enhance diversification within the funds. Additionally, as inflation has receded, we expect bonds to play a more traditional, diversifying role in funds going forward, one where the asset class can provide some support in times of economic weakness, as it has demonstrated historically.   We believe that pension members do not need as much equity risk control in the funds given their long-term horizons, with time to recover from short-term bouts of volatility and falls in equity prices. Furthermore, the reduction in equity risk control is offset by greater diversification in the bond and infrastructure allocations, which can help protect the funds during difficult market environments.   Lastly, as Ireland continues its transition to clean energy sources, we see an opportunity. We will invest in a newly established fund focused on delivering new infrastructure supporting the Irish energy transition e.g. developing solar farms and biomethane plants. Infrastructure holds attractive characteristics for long-term investors such as stable and predictable long-term cash flows, protection against inflation and provides diversification benefits.
